This 27" x 40" movie poster is for a Visual Communications III project, where I had to create a new poster and tagline for the movie of my choice. I chose to reimagine the 2007 comedy 'Hot Rod,' wanting to highlight the heavy 80's influence of the film in my design.
The critical component to creating my 80's movie poster look was to emulate the same airbrushed technique used for movies like The Goonies. After struggling with Adobe Photoshop for days, I used an app called Photo Lab to achieve the perfect airbrushed look. I then took it back into Photoshop to remove the background, apply a Smart Blur to hide any loss of quality, and add an Outer Glow and Lens Flare.
With the main image of the poster complete, I used Adobe Illustrator to create the rest of the layout. I deliberately placed the title of the movie on the lower half of the poster to allow the viewer's eye to flow from top to bottom while creating a smoother transition between the image's orange background and the poster's white border.
Though this was my first experience working with a print assignment, especially for such a large format, I am proud of how I achieved my vision and the final results of my hard work.
